Corporate Counsel - Intellectual Property The candidate will effectively participate as a member of team committed to delivering a full spectrum of intellectual property legal services including: client counseling; trade secret protection, and patent and trademark protection, surveillance, enforcement, licensing and litigation. Drive brand protection by working with internal teams to implement trademark and domain name protection strategy. Coordinate with internal teams and external counsel on enforcement activities, including cease and desist correspondence, litigation, and administrative proceedings at the USPTO. Engage with engineering and other internal teams in evaluating internal inventions, making recommendations on how to best protect key innovations and aligning patent strategies with business goals. Oversee the technical IP portfolio, including the filing of patent applications, and conducting novelty, validity and landscape studies. Assist in analyzing potential IP enforcement against third parties and assist in defending against IP claims asserted by third parties. Establish proactive counseling relationships across the organization to develop IP related opportunities and mitigate risk, emphasizing a pragmatic, business-oriented approach to problem solving. Develop and implement internal processes, procedures and training centered on intellectual property identification and protection. Be able to work independently yet provide a high level of coordination and manage multiple projects in an efficient and timely manner. Perform other duties as directed. The candidate should have a JD from a top-tier law school and bar admission. Should have 3+ years of legal experience in a fast-paced and innovative global business operations environment. Must be admitted to practice patent law at the US Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO). Bachelor's Degree or a minor in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering is preferred. In-depth knowledge of trademark, patent laws and regulations and familiarity with standards bodies and standards processes. International business experience and a mix of top law firms and in-house experience are strongly preferred. Willingness to travel.
