Privacy Counsel / Advisor Responsibilities: Be part of the Global Privacy Office. Develop, implement, support, and advise on our global Privacy Programme, including work related to the data privacy laws, globally. Provide subject matter expert assistance and support to colleagues in the Americas region on data privacy matters, and assist in managing a wide range of privacy-related issues whether internal (e.g. innovation and product development), customer, or vendor facing. Work collaboratively to develop strong working relationships with key stakeholders within the business, legal and compliance, and information security functions to promote privacy compliance. Respond to and manage data subject access requests and the logging of such requests. Assist with reviewing and responding to the privacy in-boxes, both internal and external. Support business teams and Legal colleagues with privacy issues in contract negotiations with customer and vendor relationships, including documentation such as data processing agreements and data transfer agreements. Participate as required in internal meetings, client meetings, and industry events. Assist with data breach notification obligations and actions including to lead or assist (as required) with data incident management, including breach notifications as may be required. Help to monitor for relevant developments, new laws, regulations, and guidance in privacy and provide analysis to the Global Privacy Office and key stakeholders. Assist with policy and process development and reviews to ensure compliance with data privacy obligations across jurisdictions. Assess and advise on the mitigation of data risks in new and changing products and services including those risks generated by trans-border data flows and any additional requirements under data protection law(s), through Data Privacy Impact Assessments and Privacy by Default/ Design requirements. Deliver training and awareness in support of the broader Privacy Programme. Contribute to the development and execution of both functional and operational strategy. Prepare presentations using common tools such PowerPoint and Excel. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications: JD or equivalent practical experience, and membership in at least one State Bar. 3+ years of post-qualification experience, compliance officer, or professional practicing in privacy and data protection. Experience in working autonomously, making sound judgments, and providing appropriate recommendation. Project management experience is desired. Experience in compiling relevant information and presenting in concise but impact presentations using common tools such as PowerPoint and Excel is a plus. Good working knowledge of global privacy and data protection laws, including U.S. and European law. Ability to execute compliance and privacy operationalization tasks and help develop governance practices and processes across the business. Outstanding commitment to internal and external customer service. Ability to work in a complex and developing environment with multiple priorities. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Excellent interpersonal skills and capability to build strong, trusted, and effective working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders across different functions and cultures, positively influencing the behaviour of multiple stakeholders, and successfully balancing legal issues against pragmatic sound solutions. Clear and concise communication skills, both written and oral.
