Senior Counsel, Privacy and Data Governance Responsibilities: Advise on compliance and industry standards across all aspects of North America privacy and data protection laws, including personal data classification; data security; employee data management; notice/consent requirements; data retention use and sharing; and government contracts. Collaborate with Data Governance Lead to partner with business and engineering teams to implement privacy and data protection controls, awareness and best practices for the customer, employee, partner, and vendor information. Creatively build upon and drive awareness around privacy and data security issues, including developing and delivering training on relevant privacy, data security, and data governance-related matters. Review collection, use, and transfers of data and draft data processing disclosures. Assess and respond to potential privacy and security risks, incidents, and regulatory requirements. Negotiate contractual clauses relating to privacy and data protection and perform privacy impact assessments. Develop and enhance workflows for proactively addressing and responding to privacy- and data governance-related matters. Help refine Applied Materials data governance strategy, including records management, policies, and procedures while ensuring alignment with privacy and security policies and laws. Monitor and advise on the potential business impact of new, pending or proposed laws and regulations, as well as industry developments and trends, related to privacy, data security, and data governance that may affect the company and its operations. Develop and maintain a strong knowledge of the products and objectives of the company. Efficiently leverage and manage outside counsel to advise on specific projects and remain within budget.

Qualifications: J.D. degree (or foreign equivalent) and membership in at least one US State Bar. 4+ years of work experience in multinational law firms / in-house legal departments of multinational corporations in the technology industry, working primarily on privacy and data governance projects. Experience with privacy impact assessments, risk management, and data mapping. Broad and comprehensive understanding of and passion for privacy, data protection, and data governance. The highest degree of personal and professional integrity and ethics. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, good judgment, strong analytical skills, flexibility, and pragmatic. Ability to influence beyond authority in a complex and matrixed organization. Demonstrated ability to develop and implement global, enterprise-wide policies and practices. Demonstrated ability to support and collaborate cross-functionally (IT, business units, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications: Experience advising multiple stakeholders across an organization, including R&D, IT/Information Security, Legal, Marketing, and Sales. Knowledge of APAC government relations, practices, and dispute resolution. Additional language proficiencies relevant to APAC are preferred. CIPP preferred. CISSP is a plus. Familiarity with cybersecurity standards and frameworks.
