Privacy and Data Protection Senior Counsel - External Counsel Duties: Being part of the external activities privacy team, who is responsible for external engagement, coordinating investigations and tracking new regulations. Responding to inquiries, complaints and investigations from privacy regulators, consumers, non-profit, non-governmental or civil society groups. Managing relationships with external privacy stakeholders. Tracking privacy laws and regulations and maintaining a current framework/tracker of laws and obligations applicable to the company and compliance posture. Working collaboratively with the PDP team to help analyze and communicate the implications of changing privacy laws and regulations to clients and peers. Feeding regulatory updates and analysis and related information to the PDP team and business stakeholders as well as supporting policy teams engagement and analysis of developing privacy laws and regulations. Managing escalations from consumers/members of the public. Providing legal advice to ensure your client's activities and operations are compliant with applicable laws, regulations, standards/controls, contractual obligations, and industry best practices. Act as one of the main points of contact for the PDP team on incidents involving potential data disclosure. Collaborate with the Security and Experience Teams on incident preparedness, investigation, communication, and remediation. Create and provide guides and training to legal team members, clients, and cross-functional stakeholders on areas within remit to ensure we have a consistent and clear position on applicable laws, regulations, and relevant self-regulatory frameworks. Educate and advocate for privacy and data protection in cross-functional forums. Participate as a member of the PDP in the ongoing work of building, refining, and scaling privacy and data protection compliance processes and work as part of a cross-functional privacy team to deliver best in class privacy and data protection training initiatives across the company. Support and manage various one-off projects.
Qualifications: Bar admission in good standing to practice law in a US state jurisdiction. CIPP certification is preferred. Should have 8+ years of legal experience supporting and advising businesses on global privacy and data protection-related concerns, ideally with both a law firm and/or within a fast-paced technology, media, advertising agency, public entity or Internet company. Language skills are a big plus. Experience leading with a growth mindset and comfort working in a company experiencing rapid change and evolution. Experience working on privacy and data protection incidents, investigations, and inquiries from regulators, data protection authorities and other public entities. Experience working in or building, privacy and data protection programs and developing compliance processes, practices and related documentation. Knowledge of global privacy laws, regulations, standards, and related regimes including but not limited to CCPA, GDPR, and LGPD. Proven experience demonstrative of ability to be solution-oriented, able to calibrate risk, and focused on customer service. Proven track record showing exceptional communication and project management skills. Ability to liaise with and work with regulators and policymakers.
