Legal Counsel - Privacy and Regulatory The candidate will develop and maintain subject matter expertise in and advise on the impact of privacy, telecommunications and other select laws and regulations as they apply to the business in the US and Canada and, in coordination with local teams, the remainder of the Americas region (currently Mexico, Colombia and Brazil). Will work closely with product development teams to understand telecommunications and other potential regulatory implications of new products and services across the Americas. Help develop and deliver privacy and other regulatory related trainings. Collaborate with other regulatory and compliance teams globally within the company to coordinate for an overall regional regulatory guidance framework for the Americas businesses consistent with the company's global regulatory framework. Be sensitive to and stay updated on the Americas regulatory landscape and emerging regulatory policies and trends. Maintain regulatory database and ensure clear and concise regulatory updates to business and legal stakeholders. Manage external lawyers across the Americas when necessary or local law input is required to provide legal support for the business activities. Navigate competing workflows, set appropriate priorities with clients and deliver results within agreed timelines. Think creatively and devise solutions to challenging problems, including making and articulating determinations regarding risks and benefits.
The candidate should have a J.D. degree from an accredited law school. Membership in good standing of any US or Canadian Bar organization is required. Must have 4+ years of relevant law firm or in-house experience with 2+ years of focus on advising internet, managed services, social media or technology companies on: compliance with privacy laws and regulations; and telecommunications and other regulatory implications of existing and new product and service offerings. Should preferably have experience in any of the following areas: power purchase agreements, renewable energy projects, cybersecurity and critical infrastructure, data protection and data localization laws. Familiarity with data centers and the colocation, managed services or telecommunications industries is desired.
