Associate General Counsel (Insurance Products, Tax and Corporate) The candidate provides day-to-day advice to business partners relating to the administration, operations, marketing, product design/modification and distribution of life and annuity products. Provides advice on the operation and day-to-day administration of the Company's suite of life insurance related products, including responding to inquiries from governmental agencies and other external constituents about these products and assessing claims associated with these products. In collaboration with internal and external legal counsel performs tax law research and prepares tax law memorandum supporting the Company's life insurance and annuity business. Collaborates with other attorneys on tax, litigation, and regulatory matters relevant to the Company's life and annuity products. Handles complex legal matters, analyzes legal (and business, where applicable) issues, drafts legal documents, and negotiates matters and solves intricate problems using sound legal judgment and expertise, without supervision. Builds and maintains client relationships with diplomacy and by providing insightful, timely, pragmatic, and proactive counsel. Educates self and business partners on legal developments affecting business and provides innovative strategies to address those developments. Works on or leads project or cross-functional teams. Advises business areas on new and existing state regulatory requirements. Provides additional legal support to the Company's business units as necessary. The candidate should have 7+ year's legal experience in a law firm, in-house counsel at a financial services firm, life insurance company, regulatory agency, or a combination thereof. A Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school. Admission to the bar of at least one state and eligibility for the PA bar's Limited In-House Corporate General License. Should be knowledgeable in-state insurance law with a strong working knowledge of life insurance law, contracts law and life insurance tax regulations. Strong analytical, research, writing and oral advocacy skills. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a small team environment, including being flexible and adaptable. Ability to work independently and approach matters with a hands-on attitude. History of working with a sense of urgency and a genuine desire to contribute to the company's collective success. Strong business partner with the ability to effectively counsel internal clients and manage relationships with external business partners. Ability to lead by example, acknowledge and assume responsibility for successes and failures in terms of actions, decisions, processes, and results. Meticulous attention to detail, sense of urgency, ability to handle substantial workload effectively (i.e., establish priorities, adhere to deadlines). Provide creative input to policies and procedures of Product Management team and our business partners.
