Privacy Counsel Duties: Manage and advise on global privacy program, including developing and improving privacy frameworks and processes to ensure we meet our obligations under the program. Provide legal advice to internal business partners, including advising on privacy compliance across all aspects of global privacy law and regulation. Maintain and update forms of data protection agreements and assist with drafting, reviewing, and negotiating related agreements. Support Product Counsel in evaluating impact of privacy laws, regulatory guidance, and enforcement actions on new and existing products and features. Actively participate in legal and industry associations (e.g., participating and presenting at meetings, conferences, etc., assisting in planning or preparing presentations). Act as a subject matter expert, tracking global?legal and regulatory developments in privacy and data protection and recommend any resulting modifications to current practices. Partner closely with Security team to assess and address any privacy and security risks and build new compliance processes. Conduct periodic compliance and privacy training and related programs and processes to foster a culture of compliance and Privacy by Design. Update privacy policies, assess third-party relationships, and conduct compliance assessments. Support global expansion efforts, including advising on country specific compliance and privacy requirements and considerations. Lead outside counsel relationships.
Qualifications: JD Degree from an accredited law school and an active state bar member in good standing. 3+ years of relevant legal experience specializing in privacy and data protection. Experience with global privacy laws, regulations, privacy programs, and industry guidelines. Ability to work on multiple projects and to prioritize (and reprioritize) multiple tasks and workstreams. Exceptional communication skills, including a thoughtful legal bedside manner, and the ability to explain complex ideas in a succinct and impactful manner. Solution, customer service, and growth-oriented mindset - you welcome diverse perspectives and engage problems with curiosity. A good, thoughtful human being and teammate that is risk aware, not risk averse. Bonus Points for the Following Expertise & Skills: 5+ years of relevant legal experience specializing in privacy and data protection. Experience working with international offices and managing outside counsel. Experience as in-house or regulatory staff counsel with a focus on privacy and data protection. Commercial deal experience. Experience designing privacy programs, policies, and processes. Experience advancing projects in a multi-stakeholder environment. Privacy certification (e.g., CIPP/US, CIPP/E, CIPT, CIPM).
