Staff Counsel, Employment Law and Contracts

Staff Counsel, Employment Law and Contracts The candidate will provide day-to-day counseling and advice to HR Business Partners and department managers for nationwide operations across a variety of areas including hiring, employee relations, performance management, dispute resolution, leaves of absence, accommodations, wage and hour, immigration, and reductions-in-force. Handle employment-related disputes, including pre-litigation legal disputes and inquiries related to employment matters and agreements, managing external counsel where appropriate and coordinating with HR and cross-functional internal teams. Manage federal and state agency claims, including OSHA, EEOC and DOL. Draft and review employment documentation such as offer letters, contractor agreements, separation agreements, restrictive covenant agreements, etc. Prepare and deliver training programs on various employment law topics, including state-specific sexual harassment and wage and hour training. Provide communications relating to new federal, state, and local legislation and regulations; work with business stakeholders to integrate new procedures and revised policies. Help manage subpoenas and wage garnishments. Provide employment law advice with respect to acquisitions, including due diligence and related employment agreements. All other duties as assigned. The candidate should have a degree from a top law school with excellent academic credentials and a valid license to practice law in any U.S. state. Should have 3+ years of relevant professional experience in commercial and contract law. Leading law firm or in-house experience; in-house commercial contracting experience dealing with transportation agreements and supporting a wide-ranging internal customer base is a plus. Experience with transportation/logistics services and/or insurance industry a plus. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail, and solid analytical abilities demonstrated through your work experience. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, prioritize work, and adjust to frequent workload fluctuations. Creative problem-solving skills with a focus on achieving client-friendly solutions while managing company risk. Adept at anticipating the needs of a fast-paced sales team and working collaboratively to solve problems.
