Corporate Counsel Responsibilities: Provide legal advice on valuable intellectual property rights such as patents, technical data, trade secrets, licenses, and copyrights. Interpret laws, rulings and regulations related to intellectual property. Conduct legal, technical and scientific research and gather evidence. Explain, clarify and simplify complex technical information. Present in front of stakeholders and communicate complex legal concepts in a clear and simple way that fosters trust and respect. Provide protection of the client's intellectual property by enforcing statutory, regulatory and contractual obligations. Provide protection of the client's intellectual property by securing intellectual property rights and patent protection. Provide advice and assistance on all matters relating to invention management and preparing patent applications. Provide strategic, creative and effective business and legal advice to develop a comprehensive, long-term approach to Lowe's intellectual property rights. Defend against claims of infringement. Identify IP issues in complex mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures, and advising the business on IP aspects of those deals from conception to closing. Perform invention harvesting, manage outside counsel to cost-effectively and efficiently conduct global patent preparation and prosecution, portfolio development, IP searching and/or landscaping, due diligence assessments, freedom-to-operate investigations, infringement and validity analyses, and implement risk evaluation and mitigation strategies individually and in cross-functional teams. Proactively engage various teams across the enterprise to identify potential IP risks, mitigate those risks, and provide education and training to business and technical teams. Foster strong, collaborative relationships with stakeholders and create efficient and effective processes for communicating, advising and working with stakeholders at all levels of the organization. Direct and manage outside counsel, related budgets and, where applicable, negotiate rates, project fees, and timelines. Assist with developing and implementing new processes, policies and training as needed, based on legal and regulatory requirements, industry standards, and best practices. Monitor research and development activities for the identification of inventions and potential external claims for compensation.
Qualifications: Admitted to practice law in at least one jurisdiction in the U.S. with 5 years of intellectual property legal experience. Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for 5 years. Demonstrate sound judgment even in novel situations and understand business goals in a way that helps the business evaluate risk effectively and provide practical legal advice. Use sound judgment in balancing legal risk against business needs and goals.
