Employment Counsel Duties: Act as an effective and trusted partner to the Global People team and other stakeholders and provide critical legal and strategic advice on a wide range of complex issues involving Wiley colleagues, including. Handle a wide variety of employment matters, including hiring, background checks, contingent worker relationships, performance management, employee relations, leaves of absence and accommodations, discrimination and harassment laws, wage and hour, internal investigations, compensation/benefits, global mobility, reductions in force and termination issues. Strategically resolve employment and compliance-related litigation, claims, investigations, subpoenas, etc. Assist, VP, Globally Employment Counsel with the execution of global employment law strategies and guidance to address business challenges and create organizational alignment and consistency. Develop and deliver highly effective training to business leaders, manager, and the People Team. Effectively collaborate with regional and global colleagues to provide globally aligned legal advice that appropriately balances domestic and global perspectives and needs; participate in global workstreams. Assist VP, Global Employment Counsel with the development of employment-related programs, policies and documents. Conduct due diligence of employment-related aspects of acquisition and support related integration of colleagues.
Qualifications: JD degree in combination with membership in good standing with at least one US state bar. Should have 5-8 years of labor and employment law experience; mix of law firm and in-house legal department experience. Experience with employee benefits, compensation, and restrictive covenant matters. Experience with counseling on employee privacy matters and global DE&I initiatives a plus. OFCCP experience is a plus. Expertise on US employment and benefits laws; experience advising on, and strong knowledge of, employment issues in various European and APAC countries preferred.
