Counsel- Government Segment Regulatory The candidate will protect and facilitate the growth of the Firms Government Business Segment. Will act as primary counsel for Firms Supplemental Benefits (Medicare Supplement and individual supplemental products); Maintain knowledge of regulatory and enforcement environment affecting the business to minimize risk. Research, interpret, and advise the business on applicable state insurance regulations. Serve as a strategic advisor to the business team and enterprise colleagues on the impact and response to proposed and new rules, regulations, and legislation. Work closely with Business Operations and Compliance to identify and reduce known and potential regulatory, legal, and business risks. Provide interpretative and practical advice regarding oversight and compliance requirements of the business. Interact with state and federal regulatory agencies. Review and draft contracts, company policies, and other operational documents necessary to facilitate the growth and scaling of the company operations.
The candidate should have a J.D. from accredited law school/Bar membership. Must have 5 years of the corporate legal department or law firm experience. Broad knowledge of state insurance regulation and the health insurance industry; proficiency in the regulatory analysis is required. A foundational understanding of the Medicare program is needed. Must have strong analytical, written, and oral communication skills, including contract drafting and negotiation skills. Interpersonal skills are required to develop and manage relationships with clients at all levels. Ability to identify issues and propose actionable legal and business solutions is needed. Must have a track record of project and process management. A strong work ethic, effective time-management skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities are required. Must have demonstrated good judgment and attention to detail.
