Manager and Counsel - Regulatory Banking, Insurance, Privacy and Data Law The candidate will conduct high quality legal work requiring study and analysis of complex legal questions, problems, cases and/or facts. Demonstrate business acumen, credibility, and judgment, both independently and in collaboration with compliance, business, and other GCO colleagues. Serve as an advisor regarding general insurance, insurance operations, insurance company governance, insurance holding company reporting and regulatory oversight, as well as commercial and general legal areas. Collaborate with internal marketing colleagues, outside counsel and other disciplines, analyzing complex insurance matters, product line strategy, and federal and state regulatory precedents and regulatory change management developments. Expert preparation of executive summaries, informing, educating and providing insight on innovative business opportunities and strategies presented, particularly in the insurtech space. Navigate the domestic and international insurance regulatory landscapes. Draft insurance products as well as vendor and commercial contracts.

The candidate should have a J.D. degree and admittance to the New York State Bar (or commitment to do so within one year of hire). Should have 3-5 years of relevant work experience, preferably in a law firm with general insurance practice or insurance coverage practice and/or in-house legal department at an insurance company. Interest in relationship building, developing a deep understanding of business needs and objectives with close partnership with business clients, compliance and other cross-functional departments. Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to convey advice clearly and synthesize complex issues for differing audiences using non-traditional legal communication tools like Excel and PowerPoint. Positive personal energy, commitment to excellence, strong client orientation; comfort with gray areas and decisiveness in such situations; demonstrated leadership-driving results. Demonstrated creative thinking, comfort making contributions beyond strictly legal issues, delivery of practical business solutions, with the experience, communication, and influence skills to convey confidence when solutions are not clearly defined. Commitment to developing others using a growth mindset, and influencing without direct authority. Self-starter with the ability to resolve complex issues; capable of handling multiple assignments simultaneously; resourceful, can-do approach; focus on finishing the task at hand. P&C underwriting experience is preferred; P&C regulator engagement, claims adjusting/third-party claims administrator experience is a plus. Exceptional project management skills demonstrated history of working well on cross-functional teams. Working knowledge of federal and state consumer protection laws and regulations is a plus. Ability to anticipate needs, effectively prioritize and re-prioritize. Ability to beat or meet deadlines while being customer-focused.
