Senior Counsel - US Insurance Law and Privacy The candidate will provide practical legal risk mitigation strategies in connection with the issuance and administration of group and individual insurance and other protection products across multiple jurisdictions in the U.S. Draft or review a variety of documents, including regulatory filings, policyholder notices, requests for proposals, customer communications and marketing materials. Draft and negotiate customer, third-party administrator, and vendor agreements, including confidentiality and data protection agreements. Conduct or coordinate legal research regarding U.S. group and individual insurance and non-insurance protection products. Assess and communicate legal and regulatory risks associated with U.S. insurance and counsel the business on ways to effectively mitigate such risks. Coordinate with the business, government relations, communications, and other cross-functional teams on multi-disciplinary issues. Advise on issues relating to consumer privacy, including HIPAA, California Consumer Privacy Act and breach notification laws. Should have a law degree (J.D. or equivalent) and bar admission with a strong record of in-house success. 5+ years of relevant experience either with a law firm, insurance company or other financial services institution. Ability to handle complex legal matters with minimal oversight while escalating significant issues in a timely fashion. Sound judgment, a high degree of professionalism, and an ability to prioritize and adhere to deadlines. Communicates clearly, concisely and persuasively with a variety of internal stakeholders (corporate business partners, team members, functional colleagues, etc.), works collaboratively and builds effective partnerships. Prior experience advising financial services companies is preferred. An understanding of U.S. privacy law.
