Counsel - Litigation and Employment Counseling The candidate strategically manages assigned litigation matters (False Claims Act, pharmaceutical pricing, products liability, antitrust, employment, competition law and commercial), government investigations, product complaints, and risk mitigation/reporting, oversees associated budgets, and drives successful implementation of cost control initiatives. Provides legal advice and counseling to companies in the Novo Nordisk group in broad range of legal areas, including employment law (hiring, discipline, performance management, terminations, wage and hour compliance, leaves of absence and accommodations, background checks and other pre-employment screenings, internal investigations, restrictive covenants, policy development, drafting, review and implementation, and restructures); employee benefits (design, implementation, compliance, and governance of ERISA health and welfare plans, pension plans, 401(k) plans, non-qualified retirement plans, severance plans, as well as compliance with applicable securities laws relating to benefits plans involving company stock); compensation (design, implementation, compliance, and governance of company compensation plan and policies, executive contracts and compensation); Mobility (immigration and relocation); payroll (state and federal wage and hour law compliance, unemployment, garnishments, payroll taxation); talent acquisition (OFCCP compliance, hiring practices), and the Diversity, Equity Inclusion & Belonging team. Assists with drafting and maintaining employment documents, contracts and plan documents that touch upon the employment space. Assists with OFCCP Compliance to ensure Novo Nordisk maintains its eligibility to serve as a government contractor, including supporting oversight of the drafting and filing of Affirmative Action Plans and related documents, as well as supporting implementation of any actions related to those plans and defending the Company in the case of any audits of those plans. Collaborates closely with other NNI legal department teams and functional support groups in providing advice and counsel to customer(s). Works closely with leadership from line of business in developing strategy and achieving objectives. Keeps informed of new laws, regulations, and industry trends affecting the company and pharmaceutical industry, and assists with the development of relevant policies and training. Directly advises the Managing Assistant General Counsel, Litigation, Managing Assistant General Counsel, Employment Law, and VP - Litigation, Employment and Risk Management on issues that have legal importance and/or risk implications. Proactively identifies current and emerging risks and mitigating actions. Helps drive legal communication plans and strategy implementation across functions/organizational lines. High levels of ownership, accountability, and pride by lawyers with respect to their work. Upholding and modeling ethical behavior and conduct at all times. Performs other duties as assigned by senior management.

The candidate should have a J.D. with 4+ years of experience in litigation and employment law in either a law firm or other professional legal setting required. Relevant experience or government investigations experience as well as employment counseling experience is strongly preferred. In-house counseling experience preferred. Admission in good standing to the Bar of at least one State, with the ability to obtain NJ Bar in-house limited license if not already admitted to NJ State Bar, required. Experience within the healthcare/pharmaceutical industry or another highly regulated industry is strongly preferred. Understanding of U.S. employment law and exposure to and willingness to learn employee benefits law required. Strong problem-solving skills - demonstrates and exercises creativity and initiative. Strong written communications and verbal communications/presentation skills - able to effectively collaborate with, communicate with, and deliver presentations to client groups, senior management and executives within the company. Effective time management skills. Ability to handle multiple complex projects simultaneously and independently.
