Senior Counsel, Employment Law Duties: Provide pragmatic legal advice on a wide range of employee and labor relations issues, which may include human resource issues, wage and hour law, labor relations, FMLA matters, employee benefits legal and compliance matters, employment-related litigation, grievances and arbitrations and policy compliance. Assist in drafting policies, best practices, guidelines, tools, and programs that align with and advance the Company's strategy, values, and business goals. Collaborate with human resources teams to update existing and implement new programs, processes, policies, and procedures as needed. Assist in the management and resolution of complex employee relations issues. Provide legal counsel to business partners on a wide range of strategic business issues and day-to-day operational matters. Develop and maintain strong working relationships with business and HR partners, law department members, as well as external stakeholders. Monitor compliance with new federal, state, and local labor and employment laws. Keep the company's senior management informed of significant labor and employment decisions, legislation, and regulatory rulings that may affect the company's business or policies. Manage with the assistance of external counsel day-to-day employment-related litigation.

Qualifications: J.D. from a well-respected, accredited law school. Admitted to practice in IL, IA, or MN (license active and in good standing). Should have 8+ years of experience focused primarily on advising clients on a broad range of employment law matters. Must have 4+ years of recent employment litigation management experience. Substantial experience working in a large law firm, or large in-house corporate law department is preferred. Regulatory compliance experience in ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, Title VII, etc. Demonstrated experience in handling complex employment issues and a proven track record of providing practical advice to achieve business solutions. Demonstrated knowledge of state and federal employment discrimination and other employment-related statutes, as well as common law employment claims (required). Experience handling full range of labor and employment issues, including performance management, employee discipline, termination, severance, workplace investigations, policy development, employment agreements, FLSA, FMLA, wage and hour issues, workplace accommodations, applications, training, incentive pay, and the protection of intellectual property, trade secrets and confidential information (required). Demonstrated experience managing employment litigation. Excellent legal, analytical, and drafting skills and the ability to communicate effectively with lawyers and non-lawyers. Experience building and managing collaborative relationships with internal and external parties. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate at all levels within the organization.
