Managing Attorney - Casualty Litigation The candidate will actively manage and successfully resolve busy portfolio of casualty and asbestos claims. Select, retain, and supervise outside counsel, including coordinating with law firms on managing budgets and controlling costs. Serve as strategic legal partner to the business, providing advice and counsel on business practices, risk avoidance/mitigation, and legal compliance; provide timely reports on substantive developments in legal matters. Develop strategy and action plans for claims in tandem with internal / external counsel, TPAs and insurance companies. Oversee all aspects of internal discovery process, including reviewing and developing strategy on discovery requests and responses, collecting and producing internal documents, coordinating e-discovery, identifying and interviewing witnesses, and participating in key witness testimony preparations. Mediation and settlement strategy and attendance in conjunction with internal/external legal partners, insurance companies, and TPAs. Field and address business partners on-going questions and issues through claims resolution as needed. Lead special projects within the Legal Department to drive efficiencies, contributed to knowledge management and support efforts to establish, assess, and maintain performance metrics of the team. Manage and oversee a team of two paralegals, as well as AutoZone unemployment compensation team.
The candidate should have strong academic credentials including a J.D. degree and membership in one State Bar. Should have 5-7 years of relevant experience at a law firm or in-house. Ability to travel domestically as needed (5-10% of time). Prior management experience (preferred). Current member in good standing of the Tennessee bar, or member in good standing of another State Bar and capable of gaining admission in Tennessee as in-house counsel.
