Legal Counsel - Privacy and Data Security The candidate will understand applicable privacy and data protection laws and apply those concepts to the Firm's business activities. Support the data privacy compliance program for the Firm's global operations. Advise members of the Legal, Compliance, and Risk Management contracts team with respect to privacy and data security matters on a wide variety of commercial agreements, including master services agreements, engagement letters and vendor agreements. Partner with the Firm's Information Security Department with respect to the design, implementation and maintenance of the Firm's Data Security Program. Conduct necessary privacy risk assessments. Participate in data security incident responses affecting the Firm. Coordinate with other members of the Legal/Risk Management Team, the IT Department and other departments as necessary with respect to the Firm's data management. Participate in the continued development of the Firm's Compliance Program, and execution of its annual goals and deliverables. Additional responsibilities as identified.
The candidate should have a J.D. with 5 years of experience in the data privacy and data protection field. Active license to practice law in Michigan, or the ability to obtain admission to the Michigan State Bar within a year of employment. CIPP/US and CIPP/E certifications are preferred. Excellent, substantive knowledge of US and European privacy and data protection law, and working knowledge of emerging trends in the various states in which the Firm does business. Experience developing and reviewing privacy and data protection policies. Experience counseling on privacy and data protection issues in commercial and contractual matters. Proven history of successfully partnering with IT functions and processes. Demonstrated teaming skills and ability to approach work with flexibility and a positive attitude. Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to interact with people at all levels. High attention to detail with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple responsibilities and projects effectively adapt to changing circumstances to meet critical deadlines under time constraints so work is completed in an accurate, timely manner. Ability to positively interact with personnel at various levels within the Firm, both independently and as part of a team and across all business units. Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced, consistently changing environment, and respond to urgent situations. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint; OneTrust privacy management software preferred. Must become familiar with, and promote and abide by, all Firm values as defined by the AlixPartners Code of Conduct and in terms of Ethics, Diversity, and Inclusion. Ability to work full time in an office and remote environment; physically able to sit/stand at a computer and work in front of a computer screen for significant portions of the workday.
