Junior. Counsel-Contracts Processing The candidate will perform construction agreement in-take work, on an as-needed basis, to ensure review and processing protocols are followed. Review and negotiate builder construction contracts directly with the internal stakeholders and external clients pursuant to risk management policies. Assist Senior Counsel with contractor license portfolio to ensure remains in good standing. Liaise with the business units to understand what type of work each unit is performing and what licensing requirements are needed. Assist with drafting and updating Direct-2-Consumer client and subcontractor agreement templates and the corresponding state packages. Provide legal counsel to the Divisions on general construction law matters and assist with issues arising from the builder or subcontractor agreements. Provide supervision and guidance to support the Contract Processing staff. Understand and creatively use technology to improve quality and reduce costs. Work with office staff who are remotely located. Advise, communicate, and confer with supervisor rendering clear, unambiguous legal opinions and advice. Prepare and conduct training sessions for company personnel as required. Periodic travel throughout the country may be required. The candidate should have a JD from an accredited law school. Current membership in good standing of State Bar of California. Should have 3 years of experience. Experience and proficiency in reviewing, negotiating and drafting construction contracts and subcontractor agreements. Knowledge of construction law is a plus if familiar with the laws of multiple jurisdictions. Understand risk management principles and their application to construction agreements. Ability to manage a large workload. Strong research, writing, advocacy, analytical and interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment. Knowledgeable in document management database systems. Leadership and confidence while also being able to participate effectively and constructively as a member of a team. Ability to exercise sound judgment and to work independently and efficiently under time pressures and deadlines in a fast-paced, demanding environment. Ability to manage clients with a customer service-oriented approach. Ability to work with minimal supervision.
