Intellectual Property Counsel The candidate will develop global intellectual property strategy in partnership with indie leadership. Build patent program and manage indie's patent portfolio, including patent portfolio development, assessing patentability and enforceability of patent invention ideas. Manage disputes and litigation concerning IP and related licensing matters. Provide support to product development, product management and engineering teams on IP strategy and related licensing matters. Create IP-related policies, procedures, training programs, and playbooks. Offer counseling on IP and licensing-related issues for new products and features. Provide support to corporate, M&A and operations teams on IP-related matters. Review and manage relationships with outside counsel with respect to global intellectual property protection. Undertake other projects as required as part of a small but mighty legal team.
The candidate should have a JD degree. Registered U.S. Patent Attorney with background experience in electrical engineering. Should have 12+ years of patent prosecution and IP experience at a top law firm or in-house; patent litigation experience preferred. Deep experience partnering with and providing support to executive leadership, engineering, product development, and product management teams is required. Demonstrated experience in building and maintaining a strategic and efficient patent program. Demonstrated experience leading IP-related transactions and in product development transactional work. Experience assessing IP portfolios and negotiating IP provisions in M&A context preferred. Strong technical background in semiconductors and interest in learning new technologies. Demonstrated ability to develop creative solutions to novel issues in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment. Excellent written, communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to connect with, and gain the respect of, stakeholders at all levels. Ability to adapt to and thrive in a dynamic environment of rapid growth, preferably in or with fast-paced tech-driven companies. Excellent business sense and legal judgment, with the ability to be strategic as well as detail-oriented. Flexible and willing to approach legal challenges with an entrepreneurial mindset. Admitted to practice before a State Bar, with active license in good standing.
