Corporate Counsel The candidate will provide support in responding to civil and criminal subpoenas and document requests, including review and production of documents, and crafting formal responses relating to documents and processes. Assist in a legal review of programmatic training materials and publications and other materials for public dissemination. Assist in nonprofit policy review and best practices relevant. Assist in preparing declarations and affidavits relating to missing and exploited children's programs. Track and research complex legal and policy matters relating to technology, criminal procedure, data privacy, and domestic and international laws and regulations relating to mission. Draft summaries of legal issues with potential impact on mission and programs and collaborate on strategic evaluation of legal trends relating. Coordinate with the Legal Support Assistant to maintain document retention and file tracking systems within the Office of Legal Counsel. Partner with the General Counsel, Director, Legal Affairs, and Office of Legal Counsel attorneys on other child protection projects and legal issues as needed. Other duties and special projects as assigned by the General Counsel.
The candidate should have a JD in good standing and be eligible to register as Virginia corporate counsel.??Should have 2 years of substantive experience in a law firm or non-profit organization handling a range of legal matters relating to civil litigation, criminal prosecution, general corporate issues, regulatory and statutory issues, and/or mission-related projects. Substantive experience on document review and familiarity with discovery processes. Commitment to developing substantive understanding and knowledge regarding mission and history and the intersecting legal and policy issues regularly handled by the organization. Commitment to staying up to date on NCMEC's broader legal and policy issues through self-education, research, and reading. Demonstrated experience successfully balancing a variety of short and long-term projects while meeting substantive and complex productivity and time-sensitive goals under shifting deadlines. Ability to inspire trust in discussions relating to sensitive, complex matters and to think independently while embracing a team approach in legal and strategy discussions. Ability to efficiently research and compile updates and summaries of case law, academic journals, and research reports relating to a variety of issues. Ability to produce work product for varying audiences, efficiently and with attention to detail. Ability to balance multiple projects with various deadlines. Ability to perform as a high-level strategic thinker and communicate succinctly and decisively verbally and in writing to a range of audiences. Ability to quickly, efficiently, and with high attention to detail absorb complex legal situations, often with evolving and multi-faceted developments, and to conduct research and review materials under tight deadlines. Excellent judgment in setting priorities and interacting with internal and external contacts. Demonstrated ability to effectively perform legal and Internet research and proficiency with basic word processing, contract management, discovery, and database software tools. Diligence and past success in pursuing positive outcomes in difficult situations. Adaptability, flexibility and ability to work as part of a team and in an individual capacity.
