Associate Privacy Counsel The candidate will provide specialist legal advice and subject-matter expertise required to support Firms privacy program and product development. Will partner with innovators through all stages of the product and feature development and commercialization lifecycle, while ensuring compliance with applicable global privacy and security regulations for diverse suite of products, services and partnerships. Provide specialist consultation and support to key functions, including Product Counsel, Commercial Counsel, Product Development, Trust & Compliance, Security, Public Policy and Marketing/Communications. Provide sound compliance advice based on up-to-date knowledge of relevant data privacy, security regulations and industry guidelines across global markets, including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act ( HIPAA ), the California Consumer Privacy Act ( CCPA ) and the EU General Data Protection Regulation ( GDPR). Maintain awareness of new laws, enforcement activity and other developments in the privacy domain, manage employee training and drive discussion among key stakeholders across the company to continuously improve organizational privacy practices.
The candidate should have a J.D. or equivalent degree. Must have 5+ years of attorney-level experience. 3+ years of experience with data privacy laws, including HIPAA, CCPA & GDPR is required. Must be admitted to the Bar and in good standing or otherwise authorized to practice law (e.g., have registered in-house status) in California. Experience advising legal team members and product teams on a wide range of substantive privacy topics, preferably in healthcare or life sciences settings is preferred. Experience negotiating data protection terms in a variety of enterprise agreements based on the U.S. and E.U. privacy frameworks is a plus. Experience designing and implementing compliance programs, policies, and processes is desired. Must have exceptional interpersonal skills, commitment to professionalism and collegiality, flexibility and willingness to work on a broad range of legal matters, and demonstrated ability to complete several simultaneous projects on a deadline. CIPP or similar privacy certification is preferred.
