Real Estate Counsel The candidate will provide legal advice on all aspects of real estate and landlord/tenant issues. Provide legal support on ownership issues and field operations issues, including lease violations, landlord/tenant issues, code enforcement, brokerage compliance, title & lien encumbrances, eviction/squatters/leasing fraud situations, and environmental issues (mold, radon, contamination abatement). Negotiate and resolve or coordinate with outside counsel and insurance adjusters regarding claims or litigation matters such as small claims security deposit disputes, maintenance issues, vendor disputes, personal injury claims, and HOA disputes. Manage claims and litigation against the company (e.g., habitability, security deposit, title); manage outside counsel and advise field personnel on dispute resolution as appropriate. Develop and maintain residential lease templates related forms. Develop, maintain and improve legal tools and resources for residential operations, code and HOA violation management, and claims management. Assist with the oversight of the company's financing arrangements, including, for example, securitizations, repurchase facilities, warehouse financings, term loans and similar transactions. Develop and deliver efficient and effective legal compliance training for operations personnel. Respond to consumer complaints directed to state regulatory or consumer protection agencies. Assist in developing and maintaining policies, and procedures for rental operations. Monitor developments in applicable landlord/tenant and real estate laws. Provide legal advice on the management of HOA risks and exercises of the voting power. Draft and review internal company policy. Conduct multi-state research surveys regarding various aspects of real property and landlord/tenant law and analyze the operational impact of same. Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of contracts including with third-party vendors and commercial leases. Manage corporate entity statuses, qualifications, and other entity compliance tasks. Assist management team as needed on strategic and department projects.

The candidate should have 9+ years of real estate-related experience (preferably with a large law firm). Experience with single-family or multifamily residential clients. Previous property management or multifamily residential rental experience preferred. Juris Doctorate from a well-respected law school. Exceptional communication skills with the ability to quickly develop strong relationships and maintain those relationships through high-touch service and relationship management techniques. Experience managing support staff is preferred. The ability to function effectively as part of a team, while also being comfortable operating independently. Polished, efficient professional with strong multi-tasking abilities. Proven dedication to integrity, teamwork and ethical leadership in a fast-paced, demanding environment. Ability to work with people across cultures, time zones and geographies. Exceptional project management and organization skills. Excellent analytical, excel and presentation skills.
