Tax Research Specialist-S Duties: Researches, analyzes, evaluates, and answers technical tax questions via live chat from do-it-yourself tax clients. Evaluates tax questions received by live chat, email, and other electronic sources to ascertain the exact nature of the issue, researches applicable tax law and regulations, determines best tax treatment for the client while minimizing the Company liability. Prepares accurate response in a timely manner. Conducts research on a variety of tax issues. Works with peers to share best practices and discuss common tax topics being requested through the live chat to ensure consistency in responses. Assists in researching tax issues and providing explanations, analysis, and recommendations as requested. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications : A Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or other related field is preferred. Enrolled Agent, Attorney, CPA or Registered Tax Return Preparer is a plus. Tax research or tax preparation experience. Knowledge of tax law sufficient to understand and explain most elements of personal taxation as they apply to H&R Block client demographics. Completion of ITC with a passing grade of 85%. Alternatively, completion of our paid 2 week training course with a passing grade on the assessment. Knowledge of tax research principles, procedures and techniques. Demonstrated ability to research tax issues and effectively communicate findings. Ability to interpret, analyze, and correctly formulate solutions to both routine as well as highly complex tax situations. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work effectively in a diverse work group. Demonstrated critical conceptual and intellectual skills. Ability to use a systematic approach in solving problems through analysis and evaluation of alternative solutions. Understanding and previous use of a Windows-based computer system. Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel. Demonstrated ability to operate the software necessary to research tax issues and communicate research results to clients.
