Michigan - Senior Associate-International Tax Services

Southfield MI Senior Associate - International Tax Services
The candidate will work with Senior Directors and Directors to develop long-term, sustainable effective tax rate (ETR) solutions. Will prepare slides, tax and other financial materials for brainstorming and other technical sessions intended to understand a client or prospective client's international tax architecture. Proficiently research the tax technical and accounting issues arising from such brainstorming sessions. Help analyze tax and financial data and model ETR impact. Keep current with tax practices and changes in the tax law having a direct impact on our current and prospective clients. Assist in the marketing of international tax services to existing and potential clients. Assist in the delivery of proposals and other client presentations. Supervise assignments of tax professionals serving as Associates and Interns. Mentor and supervise tax professionals serving as Associates and Interns. Assist Directors and Senior Directors with drafting written advice to clients serving a range of industries. Assist Directors and Senior Directors with liaisons with Tax and affiliates.

The candidate should preferably have a Master's degree in Taxation or J.D./LL.M. degree. Should be either a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or admitted to a United States Bar. Must have 2-3 years of international tax experience gained in law firm, industry or Big Four. Prior federal experience may be considered. Should have prior experience with some or all of the following international tax planning areas: Outbound transactions and Subpart F, Inbound Transactions, Check the Box, Tax Treaty Issues, Repatriation, Foreign Tax Credit Planning, Global Cash Utilization and Accounting for Income Taxes. Strong project management skills necessary. Compliance experience a plus. Legal 2 - 3 Full-time 2012-08-06

Lead brainstorming and other technical sessions intended to understand a client or prospective client's international tax architecture. Proficiently research technical issues arising from such brainstorming sessions. Analyze tax and financial data and model ETR impact. Keep current with tax practices and changes in the tax law having a direct impact on current and prospective clients. Assist in the marketing of international tax services to existing and potential clients. Draft and assist in the delivery of proposals and other client presentations. Provide and review written and oral advice to clients serving a range of industries. Supervise assignments of tax professionals serving as Associates and Senior Associates. Mentor and supervise tax professionals serving as Associates and Senior Associates. Liaise with Tax and affiliates across the globe to market international tax services.

The candidate will oversee complex tax research projects for clients in diverse industries. Will conduct research and analysis of a wide range of tax issues related to business transactions and tax implications of financing techniques for a variety of entities and their affiliates. Undertake tax compliance assignments for current and former executives of client corporations and partners of client organizations. Work as part of a multidisciplinary team. Assume tax-planning responsibilities for Federal and individual clients. Supervise assignments of professional accountants serving as Associates. Apply tax technical knowledge to specific client situations. Interface with client personnel to obtain information and deliver a high quality project on time and on budget. Clearly communicate work plan and project objectives to project team. Train staff on tax rules, as well as TPDG tools and methodologies. Effectively manage a team of people to deliver a technically and quantitatively correct, well documented work product.

The candidate should have a Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or other business related field. Advanced Degree preferred: MST, MAcc, J.D. or LL.M. CPA, Enrolled Agent or other appropriate certification (or in the process of pursuing) preferred. Must have 2+ years of experience in providing tax planning services or preparing and reviewing client work papers and income tax returns. Knowledge of managing projects, including scheduling, budgeting, client correspondence and billing, as well as excellent technology, research and writing skills. RIA, GoSystems Tax, FASB 109 and provision experience. Prior Big Four experience a plus. Willingness to travel required. Legal 2 - 4 Full-time 2012-08-06

Oversee complex tax research projects for clients in diverse industries. Build client relationships and demonstrate knowledge of client business. Conduct research and analysis of a wide range of tax issues related to business transactions. Supervise assignments of professional accountants serving as Associates, Senior Associates and Directors. Develop and motivate staff members by providing leadership, counseling and career guidance through mentoring and performance feedback. Assist with new business development, including add-on business. Attain visibility/recognition in the local Federal Corporate Tax Services community.

The candidate should have a Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or other business related field. CPA, Enrolled Agent or other appropriate certification required. Advanced Degree preferred in MST, MAcc, J.D. or LL.M. Must have 8+ years of public accounting experience or equivalent gained working in law firms or industry. Excellent research and writing skills are needed. Prior Big Four experience a plus. Working experience with FAS 109 and FIN 48 a plus.
