California - Patent Attorney

Palo Alto CA Patent Attorney
The candidate will work closely with individual product teams to assist with invention capture, implementing a patent filing strategy to protect strategic innovations. Will manage and utilize the subsidiary patent portfolio to advance company's business goals. Provide support to business attorneys on patent related issues in commercial and technology transactions. Provide advice and counsel to client businesses on open source software related patent issues. Support outbound patent licensing and patent cross licensing efforts. Evaluate third party patent infringement claims against company's products or technologies and provide guidance and counsel to executives. Support in-house and outside patent litigation attorneys in patent litigations.

The candidate should have graduated from an ABA accredited law school and be admitted to practice in at least one state in the US and admitted to practice before the USPTO. Should have a Bachelor's degree in EE or CS or significant software experience. Computer industry experience desirable. Advanced technical degree a plus. Must have 5+ years of experience in patents, including general patent counseling, patent related transactions and licensing, patent opinion work (invalidity/non-infringement) and/or patent litigation, and preparation and prosecution of patent applications. Patent litigation experience is preferred. Strong software technology and development knowledge or experience, particularly with respect to company's products or similar non-company products, is desired. California - Patent Litigation Counsel

Mountain View CA Patent Litigation Counsel
The candidate will manage lawsuits and third party disputes involving intellectual property issues, focusing mainly on patent disputes but including other areas such as trademark and copyright. Will partner with outside counsel and be very involved in litigation matters, including drafting pleadings, discovery requests and responses, and motions, taking and defending depositions, and attending and participating in mediation and hearings. Work closely with various legal group members having substantive knowledge relevant to particular disputes. Partner with outside counsel to take an active role in litigation and third party disputes, determining dispute resolution strategies. Draft pleadings and discovery requests, take and defend depositions, and develop the infrastructure required to prevent disputes from arising.

The candidate should be licensed to practice law in California. Undergraduate degree in computer or electrical engineering or computer science is preferred. Must have 3 years of broad based litigation experience, including intellectual property and technology matters. Should preferably have 10 years of relevant work experience. USPTO admission is preferred. Experience with strategically addressing legal complaints, writing re-exams, and experience with (and understanding of) the online industry is desired.
