Corporate Attorney The candidate will provide counsel and legal advice to CEO and V.P. of Auditing, regarding general energy law issues, and matters involving public utilities.Position reports directly to CEO and to Vice President of Auditing as necessary. Will maintain relationship with outside counsel, and stay informed of all matters pertaining to ongoing litigation in state courts. Draft, and submit appeals to governmental agencies such as the New York City Department of Environmental Protection and the New York City Water Board per direction of CEO, and Vice President, Auditing. Manage claims with the New York Public Service Commission and similar regulatory bodies in other states from inception to final disposition of the claim. Research rules and regulations in order determine whether there are savings opportunities for clients, as directed by CEO, Vice President, Auditing Department Facilitate the advancement of billing adjustments by interacting with public utilities, and government agencies, while working collaboratively with, Auditing Department, Vice President and CEO. Stay current on utility rate cases, electric market updates, and other state regulatory filings. Work is conducted independently, and any findings are reported to CEO and V.P. of Auditing Department. Undertake lobbying with relevant government entities to advance our advocacy for our clients at the direction of CEO. Maintain a log of all potential lobbying activities, and file required reports with the NYC Lobbying Bureau as appropriate. Increase internal knowledge of industry developments by providing abstracts of pertinent matters to Auditing Department, Vice President, and CEO. Prepare abstracts for CEO, Vice President, Auditing Dept. Must have 1-5 years of experience with a combination of law firm and in-house experience preferred. Should have an interest and/or experience in public utility/energy/surrounding issues. Must be an outstanding communicator (both written and oral) with demonstrated people skills. Should have excellent writing skills and an ability to effectively communicate in writing to senior members of the legal, regulatory, and business teams, Must have interest in public utility / surrounding legal issues. Should be comfortable with conducting phone and in person conversions.
