Corporate Counsel, Global Compliance and Privacy

Corporate Counsel, Global Compliance and Privacy The candidate will work closely with internal business partners to understand their business processes, applications and technologies, including how Marriott collects and uses information and work to promote the concept of Privacy by Design and embed privacy requirements and controls into projects, products and services. Will work to ensure the organization maintains appropriate privacy policies, standards, and notices and work cross-functionally with stakeholders to integrate these policy requirements into global operations. Support efforts to ensure that the company complies with cross-border data transfer restrictions and data localization requirements with respect to both intra-company transfers and transfers to third parties. Draft, review and support negotiations regarding data privacy contractual provisions in various agreements. Conduct, guide and participate in legal and ethical risk assessments; develop risk mitigation plans and make recommendations on the appropriate financial investment to accomplish the policies and implement the procedures. Monitor current and evolving statutes, regulations, and case law and help to identify legal issues of critical importance to the company. Monitor and assess the effectiveness of compliance activity and facilitate auditing. Maintain strong coordination, cooperation and mutual support between the Law Department and other corporate departments with compliance obligations such as the Internal Audit Department, Department of Investigations, iT, the Corporate Secretary s Office, Government Affairs, Human Resources, the Continents Privacy Committees and Legal and Ethical Compliance Councils (LECCs), and the Finance organization to ensure that roles and responsibilities are effectively fulfilled in the company s legal and ethical compliance program and global privacy program. Monitor current and evolving statutes, regulations, and case law and helping to identify urgent legal issues of critical importance to the enterprise-wide legal and ethical compliance program and privacy program in a global business environment. Respond to government investigations or queries as appropriate and/or required. Excellent academic records with a law degree from a top law school is needed. Admission to the Bar of a US state is needed. Should have 7+ years of experience in privacy, compliance work, or litigation. Experience interfacing with government agencies having jurisdiction over compliance matters are needed. Broad background in providing advice and counsel to operating business managers on legal and ethical compliance matters with a focus on individual integrity and principled business conduct is essential. High degree of competence and familiarity with computers and the internet is needed.
