Senior Corporate Counsel, Patent Conflicts and Licensing Responsibilities: Develop and present defenses to assertions of patent infringement against Microsoft. Negotiating with patent holder representatives and working with Microsoft engineers. Negotiate and draft licensing and other patent-related agreements, often in a team context. Work with Allied Security Trust or similar entities, managing technical and financial analysis of offered patents to determine whether to license or purchase offered patents and managing the steps necessary to bid on, license, or purchase patents. Working with team members to coordinate review of merger and acquisition patent issues, including assertions against the target, identification, and initial analysis of target patent licenses, etc. Working with IPG Patent Conflicts team members to develop a defensive patent strategy and recommend steps to address risk, such as through negotiated springing rights agreements and/or patent cross licenses with companies. Structure and support technology and patent licensing programs and assist with the strategic patent licensing negotiations. Work with colleagues in government affairs, litigation, and other groups to inform and lead effective engagement on IP policy issues of strategic importance to the company, including amicus briefs in leading cases, pending legislation, regulatory proceedings, industry coalitions and special projects. Engaging with relevant communities and influential voices on intellectual property, in a productive manner that improves the IP systems to the benefit of Microsoft and its customers, the technology industry, and the public. Qualifications: JD Degree or Equivalent International Degree. Active license to practice law in a US jurisdiction and capable of meeting admission requirements in relevant jurisdiction. 7+ years of experience as a practicing attorney in support of technology-related businesses. Ability to both think big and be detailed-oriented. Successful track record working in team environments with highly skilled professional colleagues. Excellent communications skills, a natural bias for action, and creative problem-solving skills. Experience with patent litigation, competition law, corporate law, and mergers/acquisitions is a plus.
