Corporate Counsel - Labor & Employment Litigation Duties: Manage employment disputes and litigation and direct and oversee outside counsel representing the company in litigation matters. Manage and oversee e-discovery and document collections in connection with employment litigation matters. Serve as the client representative at mediations, depositions, trial, and other proceedings in connection with employment litigation matters. Regularly advise stakeholders on exposure, possible outcomes and preferable strategies for employment litigation matters. Conduct reviews of litigation and disputes with management after outcome and advise HR and management on learnings and process improvements. Advise HR and management on day-to-day employment law issues including employee relations issues, wage and hour laws, leaves of absence, terminations, discipline, reasonable accommodations, non-compete/non-solicitation agreements, reductions in force, and employee benefits. Investigate and respond to EEOC and state law discrimination charges. Manage distribution of, and responses to, legal process, including summons, subpoenas, garnishments, levies, and maintain processes related to same. Maintain knowledge base of new laws and employment litigation developments and trends in the industry. Collaborate efficiently and effectively across legal and business functions in a manner that adds value, balances risk, and protects the company s reputation. Participate as the legal representative on various cross-functional projects and initiatives, and work collaboratively with key functional groups within KDP.
Qualifications: Juris Doctor from accredited institution, and active member of at least one state bar. Must have 4 years of law firm experience, including first or second chair trial experience, defending corporate clients and others in employment litigation, or as part of an in-house corporate legal department of a CPG food company. Broad expertise with the legal issues pertaining to employment claims including wage and hour, discrimination, retaliation, FMLA, trade secrets and non-compete agreements. Knowledge of state and federal laws/regulations related to employment law issues (Title VII, ADEA, ADA, FLSA, FMLA). Expertise in federal rules of civil procedure and general familiarity with state rules. Nimble thinker, collaborative, and comfortable with change. E-discovery processes including preservation, collection, and review. Global employment law experience a plus (Canada, Mexico, Ireland and Asia.
