Corporate Counsel - Licensing and Media Relations Duties: Negotiate deals for the exploitation of audio and video music content (including the acquisition of music rights, publishing and royalty arrangements, etc.) with music labels, artists, producers and other digital service providers, in-country performance rights organizations (PROs and CMOs), media content aggregators, emerging tech companies, etc. Draft agreements and other documentation (e.g., summaries) as part of such deals and ensure compliance with contractual obligations. Assist with research and maintaining and otherwise administering day-to-day contractual and operational matters, including memoranda to internal clients presentations to senior-level management, etc. Engage in strategy and development related to the music library, including knowledge of synch licensing, global music rights administration and royalty collection. Report on developments relating to specific deals and intellectual property law and policy to Mood's General Counsel and other C-suite executives. Contribute to internal discussions on new music, video and online strategy and policies relating to developments in business and the law, as well lead in authoring and enforcing the resulting policies. Manage and respond to inquiries from Mood's business units and international affiliates on matters related to music deals, media acquisition and payment policies, and a host of related issues/matters. Support commercial transactions for digital media services involving Mood's enterprise and other Tier 1 Customer related to core music services.
Qualifications: J.D. and active license to practice law in the U.S. (state to be determined based on location). Should have 3 years of direct work experience negotiating music, media, publishing and related transactions in-house at an entertainment company (in a recorded music or music publishing division), media company or technology company licensing music or other content, or at a law firm. Strong familiarity with new technology developments and related legal issues. Understanding of and experience with content licensing, publishing, digital media and intellectual property law. Strong negotiation skills and experience (in particular, the ability to lead and manage negotiations with a multiplicity of parts), as well as strong analytical and organizational skills. Strong interpersonal skills and business acumen. Refined and well-practiced drafting skills (in particular, the ability to develop creative solutions in areas with evolving legal guidance). Attention to detail and the ability to manage a high-volume workload efficiently and smoothly. Helpful Qualifications: Experience with privacy and data protection laws, consumer privacy counseling, and the privacy and data protection aspects of commercial negotiations. Familiarity with the recorded music and music publishing industries, as well as related legal issues and recent developments. A passion for the intersection of music, business, law, and technology.
