Legal Counsel - Corporate Generalist The candidate will handle a wide range of legal issues, including drafting and reviewing commercial agreements, advising on product development issues, corporate governance, data privacy and security, and other legal and business matters. Review, draft, and negotiate a wide range of contracts including non-disclosure, software and licensing, consulting, agency, and partnership agreements. Review, draft, and negotiate a wide range of contracts including software licensing, vendor, strategic partnership, insurance agency, consulting, and non-disclosure agreements. Develop and maintain corporate policies and assist with employee training as needed. Counsel broad cross-functional teams on the development of Simply Business's insurtech platform. Ensure marketing content and materials are accurate, and comply with relevant federal and state regulations. Research and provide expert, ethical and pragmatic advice on legal and regulatory issues. Comfortable managing disputes and litigation. Manage relationships with outside counsel and assist cross-functional work streams and internal departments.
The candidate should have a J.D. from an accredited law school. Admitted to practice law and in good standing with at least one State Bar. Should have 4-6 years of relevant experience working on a wide variety of matters; prior in-house experience is preferable. Experience in drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements. Work in the insurance industry preferred. Ability to provide practical guidance and advice on key issues. Proactive, assertive and capable of handling and prioritizing multiple tasks. Excellent interpersonal skills with a high level of professional and personal integrity. Ability to be creative and practical with a focus on innovation in a highly regulated industry. Dynamic communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong cross-functional relationships. Desire to tackle a broad range of issues with a high level of personal integrity, professionalism, intellectual curiosity and willingness to grow. Ability to explain legal issues clearly, concisely and persuasively.
