Patent Attorney
The candidate will provide counsel to ensure the protection of the company's patents, trademarks, copyrights, and other proprietary rights. Will prepare patent, trademark, and copyright applications, which are generally approved by the department head. Prepare legal opinions and analysis of patents, reviewing and drafting significant corporate documents associated with the intellectual property of the company. Participate in the litigation process in cases involving intellectual property matters. Evaluate the validity of competitors' patents and potential company product infringement upon valid patents of competitors. Responsible for pre-patent filing review, providing legal advice to the company concerning the patent viability of its inventions and the advisability of filing patent applications covering the company's inventions. Study allowed claims from the patent maintenance process and makes recommendation to Senior Management. Provide other general legal advice and represent the company in matters relating to industrial property law. Promote patent activities by providing inventors with IP trend updates and summaries when appropriate.
The candidate should preferably have prior Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, or Physics. A Baster's degree is preferred. Should be a mid-level attorney and be patent agent qualified. Should have technical knowledge necessary to represent and/or defend company's positions. Related experience in optical or Software medical imaging preferred.
Note: The position will initially be located in Melville, NY to become familiar with the IP process, but will require relocation to Boston, MA metro area after approximately 6-12 months.
