Activities will include handling complex intellectual property transactions, and providing expert legal support in connection with a large range of front and back-end IP and IP-related undertakings, including joint development agreements, technology licenses and technology sales agreements, and patent licenses. Lead teams engaged in IP transaction work for merger and acquisition projects, spin-offs and divestitures, collaborations and R&D programs. Responsible for all facets of transactions involving company intellectual property. Actively participate in litigation teams by assisting with overall litigation strategy, interviewing fact and expert witnesses, collaborating with outside counsel for the preparation of witnesses for deposition and attending same, collaborating with outside counsel in the selection and preparation of expert testimony. Assist in internal document collection and production. Assist in reviewing correspondence, arguments, memos, and briefs in support of litigation. Assist in providing instruction to local counsel in foreign litigation matters and coordination of consistent positions across various countries. Assist with the preparation of comprehensive patent portfolio summary documents and conducting patent portfolio reviews. Contribute to the development of strategy and arguments related to global opposition, invalidation and revocation proceedings. Assist in the evaluation of company's patent portfolio in advance of litigation and engage in the activities to maximize the strength of same. On occasion, conduct or assist in freedom-to-operate, validity and due diligence analysis and prepare opinions regarding same. Collaborate and assist other IP department professionals to secure patents for company inventions worldwide.

The candidate should have a Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, pharmacy or other related life sciences degree. Should have J.D. degree and admission to at least one State Bar. USPTO registration is required. Must have 5-8 years of relevant experience which will include a broad range of activities including patent drafting and prosecution, due diligence, opinion work, and patent litigation. Should have 2+ years of experience in patent litigation and particularly those with experience in Hatch-Waxman litigation are preferred. Business trips within the US and occasionally abroad associated with litigation-related activities will be required.

The candidate will work closely with individual product teams to assist with invention capture, implementing a patent filing strategy to protect strategic innovations. Will strategically manage and utilize the company patent portfolio to advance parent company's business goals. Provide support to business attorneys on patent related issues in commercial and technology transactions. Provide advice and counsel to client businesses on open source software related patent issues. Support outbound patent licensing and patent cross licensing efforts. Evaluate third party patent infringement claims against parent company's products or technologies and provide guidance and counsel to executives. Support in-house and outside patent litigation attorneys in patent litigations.

The candidate should have graduated from an ABA accredited law school and be admitted to practice in at least one state in the US. Should be admitted to practice before the USPTO. Should have a Bachelor's degree in EE or CS or significant software experience. Computer industry experience is desirable. Advanced technical degree a plus. Must have 5+ years of experience in patents, including general patent counseling, patent related transactions and licensing, patent opinion work (invalidity/non-infringement) and/or patent litigation, and preparation and prosecution of patent applications. Should have a passion for technology, strong communications skills, particularly in counseling or communicating with senior executives, and strong collaboration skills. Patent litigation experience is preferred. Should have experience working with products in a global setting and with a broad international user community.

Patent Counsel - Preparation and Prosecution
The candidate will understand the technology, business plans, product roadmaps, and domestic and international patent laws, and to work in a cooperative atmosphere to achieve this goal. Will work closely with engineering and/or business units to understand how their intellectual property provides benefit to company and provide quality patent legal advice resulting in a high quality patents. Other responsibilities include understanding the technology being supported, evaluating inventions for patentability and value, leading patent review boards, working with US and international counsel to ensure high quality patents, and evaluating the impact of prior art searches.

The candidate should have a J.D. degree, USPTO registration, and at least one State Bar registration. A Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or computer science is preferred. Engineering and law firm experience a plus. Must have 3+ years of experience in preparing and prosecuting US and international patent applications. Should be registered to practice before the USPTO and admitted to the Bar of at least one state.
