Corporate Counsel-Legal Affairs and Employment The candidate will be responsible for providing counsel and training to the Human Resources and business executives on general employment matters such as recruitment and hiring, compensation and benefits, wage and hour, accommodation requests, leave, separations, performance management, terminations, non-compete agreements, workplace investigations, performance reviews, disciplinary warnings, terminations, workplace safety, ethics and immigration. Providing advice on employment policies, procedures and handbooks, representing the company before state and federal agencies and assist with litigation/arbitration. Must be a strong team player, service oriented, have a can-do attitude, utmost discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality, and a good sense of humor. Partnering with the HR team at all levels to achieve corporate culture goals. Drafting employment, separation, non-competition, confidentiality, consulting agreements and other employment related documents. Comfort advising on benefits and compensation including commission-based pay programs. Stay-updated on labor and employment issues/regulations affecting timeshare/hospitality industry and disseminate information to HR and business teams quickly and effectively. Gathering and analyzing data and employment-related complaints prepare concise and effective reports and develop proactive risk mitigation strategies.
The candidate should have JD Degree from a top tier Law School, MBA is preferred. Must have California Bar or admission as Registered In-House Counsel. Should have 3+ years of experience in Labor, Employment and Benefit including In-House. Must have experience advising business clients by directly providing effective guidance, sound judgment and practical legal solutions to reduce litigation risk. Experience assisting in the creation, implementation and regular updating of employment training, policies, handbooks and procedures is preferred. Experience with reorganizations, severance plans, separation agreements, including reductions in force and drafting appropriate documentation and policies are plus. Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint and matter management applications is asset.
