Corporate Counsel, Studios The candidate will handle all legal aspects of production of original scripted and non-scripted television series and feature-length motion pictures, including helping to develop forms and policies, and structuring, drafting and negotiating a wide range of complicated agreements such as performer, writer, producer and directors agreements, documentary and reality participant and access agreements, below-the-line crew agreements and other production related agreements. Responsible for all legal matters during the course of production, including evaluating rights issues, structuring tax incentives, reviewing content for copyright, trademark and defamation risks as well as standards and practices compliance, advising on guild issues, reviewing marketing and publicity materials, and overseeing outside production counsel. Aanalyze and interpret contracts and provide thoughtful legal advice on potential risks and issues in a wide range of legal areas, including intellectual property, labor and employment, immigration, public policy, safety, and tax. Some travel, domestic and international, may be required.
The candidate must have Juris Doctor and membership in good standing in at least one State Bar. Must have 3+ years of experience working in the entertainment industry as a lawyer in connection with the development and production of filmed entertainment content. Must have work with a studio, production company, or an entertainment and media law firm, with extensive experience and strong skills in drafting and negotiating contracts, counseling on legal compliance issues, and content review. Ability to analyze and assess business processes, spot issues and propose/implement solutions is preferred. Capacity to function autonomously yet communicate laterally and upwardly with ease is preferred.
