Will be an essential member of a small international group of attorneys, patent agents and support personnel responsible for intellectual property matters, primarily for the mass spectrometry and chromatography businesses of firm. Securing patent protection for inventions developed at firm's, including drafting applications and Office Action responses, developing strategies for identifying and capturing high-value IP, and overseeing the work of outside counsel. Must have admission to practice before the USPTO. At least a bachelor's degree in engineering or in the physical sciences, with a graduate degree and/or substantial industrial experience preferred. Oversee the ethics and compliance function for firm s legal team. Ensure strong and consistent ethics and compliance standards across the company. Train employees on ethics and compliance-related topics and conduct risk assessments periodically. Answer a broad range of ethics and compliance-related queries from employees. Provide legal advice for internal investigations concerning potential code of conduct, conflicts of interest, financial misconduct, or other violations of internal firm policies.

The candidate should have Juris Doctor or equivalent degree, 5+ years of experience in a law firm working in broad-based employment law or similar in-house experience. Experience in providing advice on a broad range of employment issues, including HR practices, investigations, performance management, terminations, recruiting, hiring, compensation and benefits, wage and hour and labor relations is essential. Experience interacting with the OFCCP, EEOC and state and local EEO agencies on complex matters is essential. Should be admitted to the bar and in good standing or otherwise authorized to practice law in California. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills is essential. 8+ years of experience in a law firm working in broad-based employment law or similar in-house experience is preferred. Direct or indirect (e.g. via a secondment) in-house experience is desired.
